Story behind "LA CABRA" (The GOAT!)
Ethiopia has a special place in our hearts as coffee lovers. That is because Ethiopia is widely considered the birthplace of coffee.
So how does a goat tie into this story, you may ask?
Well, it's due to an old Ethiopian Legend of how coffee was first discovered and it goes like this...
There once lived a goat herder by the name of Kaldi. Kaldi noticed that his goats became energetic after eating berries from a certain tree. So energetic that they didn't want to sleep at night!
Kaldi then shared his findings with the head monk at a nearby place of worship. The monk deemed the berries the "devil's work" and threw the berries in a nearby fire.
The berries released a powerful, pleasant aroma that the monk could not overlook.
The monk decided to have the embers pulled from the fire and had hot water poured over them to preserve the smell.
He drank the mixture and experienced calming and peaceful sensation. He also realized that the drink gave him enough energy to stay up for long period of prayer.
The monk then shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and the knowledge of the energizing berries began to spread!
